Curriculum Implementation

Our Curriculum is based upon high quality resources, programmes of study and published schemes to create a broad and balanced curriculum ensuring coverage of all the National Curriculum objectives.

• English is taught through high quality and well-chosen texts. The Write Stuff is based on two guiding principles; teaching sequences that slide between experience days and sentence stacking lessons. With modelling at the heart of them, the sentence stacking lessons are broken into bite-sized chunks and taught under the structural framework of The Writing Rainbow. Teachers prepare children for writing by modelling the ideas, grammar or techniques of writing.
• Phonics in Early Years and KS1 is taught using the Read, Write, Inc scheme; all pupils begin their journey to read with confidence, develop a love of reading and apply their skills competently to writing.
• Reading is taught in Key Stage 2 using Read to Succeed.
• Maths is taught through the White Rose Hub and NCTEM.
• Science, History and Geography are taught using the Pearson's Reach Curriculum. We are confident that this approach offers a truly broad and balanced curriculum to all pupils. It offers the chance for all pupils to encounter and understand the very best that has been thought and said. We believe that this will inspire pupils to go on and excel in their chosen field, with the widest range of opportunities available to them. The wider RE curriculum follows the Leeds Agreed Syllabus.
• Music is taught through Kapow; the scheme offers week-by-week lessons for each year group which support all the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum for Music in England in full. Our Music Curriculum is enhanced by Artforms who deliver instrument lessons and a weekly singing assembly.
• Art, Design and Technology follows the Kapow scheme; a broad and balanced curriculum that stretches and inspires children.
• Computing is taught through the Kapow scheme of work. This is an innovative approach to teaching computing which encourages pupils to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and computational thinkers while creating purposeful content to demonstrate how learning can be applied across the wider curriculum.
• PSHE and RSE are taught through Jigsaw. Jigsaw’s cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health.
• Spanish is taught using the Language Angels scheme; a scheme that is engaging and fun for pupils and enables our teachers to confidently teach Spanish throughout school.
• PE is taught using our own Trust’s scheme of work which develops pupils' knowledge, skills and competences in a range of different sports and physical activities recognising the importance of PE on children’s health and well being and striving to provide high quality teaching and learning experiences to enable every child to thrive.
• RE is taught using the Leeds agreed RE Syllabus.
